HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) -- Hoover residents are coming together to make their voices heard about a proposed development project at the intersection of Highway 280 and Cahaba Valley Road.

The proposed mixed-use development on a 30-acre lot at Tattersall Park was granted a continuance by the city's planning and zoning commission last week.

A survey started by a woman who lives near the proposed development at Tattersall Park is gathering opinions from the community. The goal is to share the information gathered with the developers, Hoover City Council and Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato.

“People want to share about what they want in that area,” said Ashley Lovell, who started the survey.

Lovell started the petition against EBSCO's proposal for Tattersall Park. She said the residents in her neighborhood are not against development but want to have a voice in the process.

“We want to find a solution to work together," Lovell said. "This is an opportunity for us to work with EBSCO, work with the City of Hoover to come up with a solution that works for everybody."

The survey allows people to choose what kind of development they would like to see at Tattersall Park.

“We want to see development that benefits the community," Lovell said. "We want to see development where the community has input."

City councilor Khristi Driver said the EBSCO is working on the proposal.

“There were a lot of questions about parking as well as some outdated numbers that were in the traffic study, so I would expect that they’re updating that," Driver said. "I also understand that they may be taking the time to further engage with the community, and I hope that they will be listening to what the community wants."

She said the city is listening to residents as they voice their opinions.

“We want to hear about things like the health, safety and the welfare of the area, as well as the character of the community and whether this fits,” Driver said.

The proposal could go in front of the planning and zoning commission Nov. 11, Driver said.
