MOODY, Ala. (WIAT) -- The stakes are getting high as we near the end of the regular season for high school football. While many schools are on the hunt to secure a playoff spot, many shining stars are emerging to lead their teams to victory while also making history.
This week's CBS 42 Athlete of the Week is the Blue Devils' quarterback Charlie Johnston.
Johnston helped lead Moody offensively to their first win over Leeds since 2009. The win also moved the Blue Devils to 4-0 in region play, moving them one step closer to capturing their first region title in two decades.
The senior quarterback was nine of 14 passing for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He was also productive on the ground, rushing for 24 yards and a score.
After the game, the CBS 42 sports crew caught up with Johnston as he expressed nothing but happiness, saying that the it-factor of the team is their mission to find greatness together as one.
"I was really proud of our team and how we handled adversity throughout the game and how we handled all three phases," Johnston said. "Just proud of our guys and all glory to God for the win. And we gotta move on to next week and just keep learning and keep getting better, and we are going to roll into playoffs, and we will be prepared. It is something that is a lot of fun when you have a program that has experience in it, and I mean, it is something that you really can't replicate in high school. And, I mean, it is something that is truly a blessing to experience it and have these experiences with coaches."
