BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A man, woman and small boy were killed in a Birmingham shooting Saturday evening.
According to officer Truman Fitzgerald with the Birmingham Police Department, at around 5:20 p.m., officers received a call from a third party regarding a vehicle crash in the 1700 block of Indian Summer Drive. Officers at the scene learned there was a shooting.
Police saw blue sedan in the front yard of a residence riddled with bullets. Officers observed Landon Brooks, 5-years-old, of Center Point, Arkia Berry, 28, of Center Point, Eric Ashley Jr, 28, of Hoover, inside the vehicle. The three people were shot, and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel pronounced them dead.
Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation shows police believe there was an interaction among the occupants in the victims' vehicle and suspect's vehicle. Fitzgerald said after the shooting, the driver in the victims' vehicle drove a short distance before crashing into decorations in the front yard of a residence. He said the majority of the shots were fired in the parking area of Echo Highlands Park.
There is no one in custody in connection to the case. Those with information on the shooting are urged to call the BPD at 205-254-1764 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
Fitzgerald said they are seeking surveillance footage because of the number of houses in the area. He said Crime Stoppers honors surveillance footage submissions in the same way as anonymous tips, which could lead to a cash reward.
