Rinse and Repeat Rain Chances This Week with Cooler Temperatures

Tonight: The humidity will remain relatively low through tonight, allowing low temperatures to drop into the lower 70s. Dry conditions with partly cloudy skies are expected.

Sunday: Another very hot afternoon is in store with high temperatures making a run for the upper 90s. A few widely scattered storms will form during the afternoon as skies become partly to mostly cloudy. The humidity will also be noticeably higher.

Looking Ahead: Daily afternoon storm chances stick around through the next week as the large dome of heat caused by a ridge of high pressure will begin to retreat to the south while the heat rebuilds out west. This will allow room for a cold front to near the region heading into mid to late week. Humid conditions will become a bit more oppressive by Tuesday as moisture gets pulled off the Gulf.

This moisture will attract and collide with the cold front forecast to approach from the north. Several showers and storms are likely Wednesday through Friday as the front begins to stall out over Tennessee and north Alabama. This will keep the focus for showers and storms across central Alabama for the second half of this week.

With high temperatures dropping closer to average in the lower 90s, an increase in humidity will cause heat index values to near 105° by midweek outside of afternoon rain and storms. However, an increase in cloud coverage will keep temperatures slowly falling into the upper 80s by next weekend.
