PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A nonprofit organization in Pelham will host Swag the Bag, a trash bag art and fashion show at the Shelby County Arts Council on Nov. 1.
Second Shift is a nonprofit organization focused on assisting Alabama youth who are at risk or aging out of foster care to transition into independence.
Tammy Spence, founder and executive director of Second Shift, stated, "When Second Shift intervenes in these outcomes, we can prevent homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, human and sex trafficking and the repeated generational cycle of foster care."
All proceeds from Second Shift's Swag the Bag event will benefit youth who have aged out of foster care.
In a statement, Second Shift explained that, historically, many foster children have used trash bags as luggage.
The statement continued, "'Swag the Bag' gives us the opportunity to reframe that iconic symbol into something FUN and FABULOUS!"
Tickets to the event can be found here.
