Birmingham-based Christian Service Mission helping Hurricane Helene victims

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Birmingham-based Christian Service Mission is sending truckloads of aid to places that Hurricane Helene hit hard.

The mission has sent one truck to Perry, Florida, and two trucks to North Carolina. The trucks include water, food and hygiene items. The mission said it will help thousands of people affected by the hurricane.

"We're working in conjunction with the city, with Bundles of Hope, with Convoy of Hope, and we really just want to serve the churches and serve the people that's been affected," said Christian Service Mission Executive Director Tracy Hipps.

The biggest need for the nonprofit organization right now, Hipps said, is water. Those who would like to drop off donations to Christian Service Mission can take them to its facility on 3600 Third Avenue South in Birmingham. It is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
