BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, district attorney offices and officials had a closed-door meeting at the Birmingham Police Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
Tarrant Police Chief Wendell Major said Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall called the meeting last minute to make sure all statewide agencies are on a coordinated effort to combat the recent rise in crime.
"It's not an issue of promoting any individual or any particular method," Major said. "We're going to do all that we can to reduce the violence in our community."
Major said the meeting is a great start and expects more discussions in light of Saturday's mass shooting in Birmingham and other violent crimes throughout Alabama.
