BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A man died after he was found shot in east Birmingham on Tuesday night.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8:05 p.m. to a person shot call in the 7800 block of Third Avenue South. At the scene, officers found a man lying in the road suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel transported the man to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later identified the man as Perez Demarco Moreland, 34, of Birmingham.
The BPD stated it preliminary homicide investigation shows the victim and another man exchanged shots at a nearby residence. The other man involved in the shooting has been cooperative with BPD investigators. Detectives are attempting to determine why the shooting happened and who fired first.
