BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The college football season rolls into Week 4 after ranked teams survived upsets in Week 3.
No. 1 Georgia escaped and survive on the road against Kentucky with a one-point win, 13-12. It was an ugly game for the Bulldogs, who struggled to get anything going offensively for the majority of the game. It has been a common thing for the Bulldogs when they travel to play the Wildcats, as in their past three visits, Georgia hasn't scored over 17 points.
"College GameDay" was in Columbia, South Carolina, as the Gamecocks took on LSU. South Carolina got out to a strong start and took a commanding 17-0 lead early. After storming back to make the game competitive at halftime, LSU completed the comeback after the Gamecocks missed the potential game-tying field goal to lose, 36-33. Freshman running back Caden Durham had a breakout game, rushing for 98 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.
The best ranked matchup over the weekend was between Boston College and Missouri. It was a back-and-forth game until Mizzou gained control and ended up winning, 27-21. Luther Burden III, who is arguably the best wide receiver in the SEC, continued to make a claim for that statement, as he racked up 117 yards and a touchdown on six catches.
Auburn may have found its quarterback moving forward with Hank Brown. The redshirt freshman got the nod in Week 3 after a disappointing performance from Payton Thorne in the loss to California. Brown took advantage of his opportunity at Jordan-Hare Stadium, going 17-of-25 for 235 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-19 win over the New Mexico Lobos.
Week 4 brings a couple of big-time ranked games between historic schools. "College GameDay" will be in Norman, Oklahoma, as the No. 15 Sooners host their first SEC game against No. 6 Tennessee. No. 11 USC will be on the road to face No. 18 Michigan as the Wolverines have made a switch at quarterback, turning to Alex Orji. No. 14 Oklahoma State will host No. 12 Utah and on Friday, No. 24 Illinois will travel to No. 22 Nebraska.
