GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — Gadsden Police Department announced an arrest made in the aftermath of an apparent road rage shooting Tuesday afternoon.
At around 3:17 p.m., GPD officers responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Rainbow Drive and Lakewood Drive. A female victim was found shot at the scene and was treated by medical personnel for non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators found that the suspect fired shots at the victim from a Jeep truck before driving off toward I-759. A description of the suspect and his vehicle were issued in an alert to nearby law enforcement agencies.
The vehicle was later spotted by the Rainbow City Police Department and Tommy Junior Smith of Oxford was taken into custody. He is charged with first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
GPD thanked RCPD, Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Southside Police Department, Attalla Police Department and the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit for their assistance. The department also assures residents that the shooting was an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public.
