Thursday: High pressure will be west of Alabama on Thursday, continuing to bring northerly winds across the region. These winds will keep it less humid with plenty of sunshine. It will become hotter with high temperatures in the low 90s, and perhaps a few mid 90s west of I-65. The heat index will be the same as the air temperature.
Friday: Friday will continue to be hot with low humidity as the area of high pressure moves north of Alabama, and we have northeast winds over the area. High temperatures will heat up into the middle 90s, but the heat index stays close to the air temperature.
Weekend Outlook: The area of high pressure will move over the northern Gulf of Mexico this weekend. An upper-level area of high pressure will sit south of Alabama but be close enough to bring us hot weather. Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy, hot, and gradually become more humid. There could be a few pop-up storms on Sunday. High temperatures will be in the upper 90s to around 100° and the heat index will be around 100-105° each day.
Next Week: Very hot and humid weather returns with a heat index between 105° and 110° for the first half of the week. Hit or miss summer storms return to the forecast for the first half of next week.
Tracking the Tropics: There is a trough of low pressure off the SE U.S. Coast. Conditions are only slightly favorable for development over the next few days before it moves inland. NHC is giving this system a low chance to develop. It will be a rain producer for the Mid-Atlantic regardless of development. Elsewhere, the rest of the tropics are quiet due to the dry air from the Saharan Dust moving west off of Africa.
