MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) -- The state welcomed First Lady Jill Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at Maxwell Air Force Base Friday. The Alabama GOP heard from Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump.
"I created my White House initiative, Joining Forces, to support military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors," said the First Lady.
Mrs. Biden talked about the full-day pre-kindergarten program that recently started at Air University.
She said providing high quality pre-k education across the nation is important.
"We're here today to celebrate something big," she remarked. Military kids at Maxwell Air Force Base, and at eighty military schools across the country and abroad, now have access to full-day pre-kindergarten."
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin talked about how they are helping military families. This includes military spouses who have to move frequently.
"Especially when you're having to move from duty station to duty station. So, we've expanded spouse employment programs. And we're helping to make professional licenses portable and opening more paths to remote work," said Austin.
At a GOP Summer Dinner at the Renaissance Hotel, Lara Trump spoke to republicans about getting her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump, elected.
"We don't want anyone to sit out this election cycle thinking it is not important to go vote because their vote doesn't matter. So, make sure you spread the message loud and clear here in Alabama. But I know y'all got friends everywhere. Make sure they hear it as well," Trump said.
She says the RNC has been working on election integrity. "If you're a person who is attempting to cheat in an election, we will find you. We will track you down. We will prosecute you to the full extent of the law," remarked Trump.
With fifty-two days left until the election, Lara Trump encouraged everyone to get involved.
