PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Chelsea Hornets are on a roll. For the first time since the 2016 season, the Hornets are 3-0 on the year including a 1-0 record to kickoff region play.
There are a lot of superstars on the Hornets' 2024 roster. However, there is one player who is a total game changer and is keeping the early success going through the success in the backfield.
Junior running back Chase Stracener put his team on his back two weeks in a row. In the final 90 seconds of the Hornet’s game against county foe Pelham, Stracener bulldozed his way into the end zone from 1-yard out to keep the Hornets undefeated and to defeat the Panthers 36-33 on Friday.
“Chase Stracener is a dude.” Head Coach Todd Cassity said postgame. “There are so many adjectives to describe number three, and he is a total dude.”
On the night, Stracener finished rushing for 287 yards on 39 carries and four touchdowns. He also had four receptions for 24 yards.
“My mentality was to go in and help my teammates,” Stracener said. “Our mentality and our coaches always say, 'See over me,' and my teammates helped me out in those final seconds of the game.”
Chelsea is on an open week after their 36-33 win over Pelham this week. The will back in action Friday, September 20th hosting Calera.
Congratulations to Chase Stracener, our CBS 42 Athlete of the Week.
