PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A school resource officer with the Pelham Police Department was placed on paid administrative leave when an investigation started Wednesday evening.
According to Pelham police, the department received information from a parent of a former Pelham Park Middle School student Wednesday evening. The parent shared with police that a student communicated via texting with the school resource officer at the middle school.
Pelham police stated the messages, which were from late May, may be deemed inappropriate. An investigation started into the allegations. The school resource officer was placed on paid administrative leave and has not been at Pelham Park Middle School since Wednesday. Police did not name the school resource officer.
The department stated it has no evidence any physical contact occurred or was suggested between the former Pelham Park Middle School student and officer. Police are updating Pelham City Schools on the situation. There is an officer assigned to Pelham Park Middle School.
Pelham police announced they will not release more information until the investigation is finished.
